Workforce and The Texarkana Chamber of Commerce’s Role
Workforce development is our priority.
Workforce development is the number one priority of the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce. We believe a strong, skilled workforce is the foundation for economic growth, business attraction, and community success. To support this goal, the Chamber leads and collaborates on several key initiatives that align talent development with the needs of regional employers.
At the forefront of this effort is our commitment to the ACT WorkKeys system and the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). These tools help individuals of all backgrounds showcase essential workplace skills—regardless of educational history—while providing employers with reliable data on job readiness. By promoting and supporting NCRC testing, we’re helping build a workforce that is prepared, competitive, and confident.
The Chamber is also working to earn designation as a certified ACT Work Ready Community—a formal recognition that our region is actively closing the skills gap through the use of WorkKeys and NCRC. This designation shows that local employers, educators, and leaders are united in building a job-ready workforce. Achieving this status not only benefits our residents but also strengthens our position when attracting new businesses to the area and supporting those that are here. Both Miller and Bowie Counties are making strides in holding the title of being a certified ‘Work Ready Community’.
We also work closely with economic development partners including AR-TX REDI, TexAmericas Center, and the Nash Industrial Development Corporation to ensure workforce strategies are aligned with industry recruitment, expansion goals, and training pathways. These partnerships strengthen our ability to create job opportunities and meet employer demands with a well-prepared talent pool.
Whether it’s connecting students and adults to skills-based credentials, convening employers to discuss workforce needs, or fostering regional collaboration, the Chamber plays a vital role in developing a pipeline of qualified workers.
Our secondary—but closely linked—priority is improving quality of life in Texarkana. We understand that strong communities attract and retain talent. By investing in workforce development and quality of life simultaneously, we’re building a more vibrant, resilient, and opportunity-rich region for all.
